Helpful Design Tips
What are your project’s objectives? Establishing clear objectives and goals upfront will help your installation to move along smoothly and easily. Here are questions to consider:

Who will be using the site?
>
What age ranges will your fitness area serve?
>How many people should your fitness area be able to serve at one time?
>Are there people with special needs to consider?

What does the landscape look like?
>Does your site have any space constraints or unique features? Plan around trees, fences, walls, roads, rocky areas, other recreational areas, parking lots, safety concerns, etc.
>Will you need to prepare the site (i.e. tree removal, leveling, drainage, etc.)? If so, will this be a community, groundskeeping or volunteer effort, or will you need to hire someone for the job.

What is the cost? What about budget?
>Do you have a budget for the entire project or are only in need of the equipment?
>Will you do any fundraising for the project? If so, what are your fundraising goals? CLICK HERE for additional information on fundraising.
>Are you planning a community or volunteer build?
>Will you be hiring someone to complete the project for you?

Your fitness area vision.
>What is the overall vision of the project?
>What are the specific pieces of equipment you want to include?
>Does your project have special meaning (e.g. a memorial park, a community morale booster, etc.)?

3. Shipping and Delivery
OUTDOOR-FITNESS, Inc. is able to offer discount freight rates with top national and international carriers. All shipments will be made via the quickest and most economical way unless a specific routing and/or delivery time frame are requested.

The equipment will be shipped from our warehouse in Denver, Colorado. Please call or e-mail us for a cost quotation including shipping fees. Shipping costs usually ran in the range of 11% to 30% of the total equipment cost for domestic (U.S.) orders, and 35% to 55% of the total purchase price for overseas orders. The total shipping costs depend on the quantity of items, total weight and dimensions of the order, as well as the location of the order destination, but these can vary. Please call 1.877.517.2200 or e-mail (info@outdoor-fitness.com) for a Quotation of Equipment and Shipping if needed or if you are placing an order from outside the continental United States.

Please allow at least 2 to 4 weeks for delivery of domestic orders when all items are in stock. For overseas orders, please allow a minimum of 45 to 60 days for delivery of the equipment once your final order is placed. Your equipment will be delivered to you during normal business delivery hours (8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday thru Friday), unless specific instructions are given to us at the time of your order.

At OUTDOOR-FITNESS, INC., we try to anticipate your equipment delivery needs. Most common carrier shipments are "Tailgate Delivery", which means that you or your organization will provide adequate personnel or equipment to unload the equipment shipment from the truck when it arrives. The equipment is very heavy, and will need at least two strong individuals to help unload. If storage of the equipment is necessary before the installation, it is recommended that the equipment be stored indoors in a dry and secure area until the scheduled installation begins.

*Additional Shipping Services PLEASE NOTE:
If you or your organization require additional shipping services, please order these services at the time you request your Outdoor-Fitness Equipment Shipping Cost Quotation.  This is because the trucking industry will normally increase the costs to you for additional shipping services if you happen to order them after your order has been shipped.

Additional Shipping Services include:

“Lift Gate Service” - If for any reason, you may be unable to unload the equipment shipment from the freight truck, please order a "Lift Gate Service". If ordered, the driver will bring a special truck that has a lift gate device on the rear of the truck that will automatically lower the shipping pallets carrying the equipment to the ground. The driver is responsible for lowering your shipment to the ground; however the driver will not be able to help you move the equipment from the point of delivery. From the delivery point, you or your organization would then move the equipment to the installation area if needed.  Please keep in mind, if using personnel to move the equipment from the delivery point rather than machinery, sometimes "Tailgate Delivery" is the best method. The reasoning being that, for personnel, moving the equipment directly from the truck at waist height is usually easier than lifting and moving the equipment from the ground to the installation site.

“Residential Delivery Service” - If the delivery location is a residential area or address, please request this service.

“Phone Call Service” - Your equipment will be delivered to you during normal business delivery hours (8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday thru Friday), unless specific instructions are given to us at the time of your order. If you would like to receive a phone call from the freight company 24 hours prior to delivery, please request this service and provide us with the best contact phone number at which to be reached.

OUTDOOR-FITNESS, Inc. takes extreme care to ensure that your shipment arrives in full and acceptable condition. When your shipment arrives,  the carrier will provide you with a delivery receipt. It is vital that your ordered equipment is accounted for and that inspection for damage is done at this time, prior to signing the delivery documents.  Claims for any missing pieces will not be able to be made by Outdoor-Fitness unless it is recorded on the delivery receipt documents. Any other damage to equipment noticed after delivery should be reported within 15 calendar days of receipt of delivery.

Should you have any questions or need any further assistance, please call our Customer Service Department at 1.877.517.2200. We are happy to help you with anything you may need.

4. Surfacing
Build fitness from the ground up. We encourage the use of excellent surfacing material. School playgrounds have adopted recycled rubber surfacing, either poured in place or as 2-foot square tiles that are glued onto a firm base. We suggest adopting the same safety standards as school playgrounds, especially if the facility is freely accessible to children.

Depending on the choice of equipment and the potential fall-height, various thicknesses and colors are available from rubber surface manufacturers. Good surfacing also extends the fitness capabilities of the system since so many additional exercises, stretching, calisthenics and bounding can be performed on the ideal resilient surface. Outdoor-Fitness staff will put you in contact with a number of surfacing companies, as requested. We will be able to give you some broad estimates and recommend the best pricing and quality. If requested, we will provide you with at least three competitive bids.

Most surfacing companies will have regional representatives to install a poured-in-place area, whereas, the rubber tiles can be more easily installed by the same group that installs the equipment. This is why the tiles are the most common choice.

If you would like to read further information about safety and safety surfaces, please follow THIS LINK and refer to this very useful resource: "Handbook for Public Playground Safety” available online from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Although not all fitness areas are playgrounds, the handbook provides valuable information on general safety.

5. Installation
Outdoor Fitness Equipment Installation Menu Outdoor Fitness Equipment Installation Assistance Outdoor Fitness Equipment Istallation Drawings outdoor fitness equipment maintenance Outdoor-Fitness Equipment is not complicated to install, although, because of its strength and durability, it is heavy and certainly requires some muscle power.

Full detailed installation drawings and instructions will be provided upon the shipment of your equipment. Installation information is also available for individual pieces on our website under individual equipment pages, Installation Drawing - as well as on the Installation menu you see to the left by clicking on Installation Drawings.

The skills required are little more than installing an outdoor basketball backboard, or playground equipment. If needed for installation, organizations can use their locally accessible small contractors (for a list of small local contractors that may be able to help you with your installation, CLICK HERE). We will be pleased to discuss the process with them while your installation bid is prepared. If help finding a contractor is needed, there are several professional organizations which provide a resource of skilled contractors such as The National Playground Contractors Association. Fees for the installation of Outdoor-Fitness Equipment are not included in the individual equipment piece price and can widely vary among contractors or bidders.

The installation of the equipment is mostly a task of preparing the holes for the concrete footings. The equipment is embedded in either 50 or 30 centimeters of concrete. Care and skill are required to make sure the placing of the equipment aligns vertically and horizontally, and that the equipment is level.

If requested, Outdoor-Fitness staff will supervise the installation process. Generally, this is not necessary, and it could add to the cost. Once scheduled, an experienced Outdoor-Fitness staff member will be on call, full-time via cell phone, throughout the installation activities to answer any questions that your installer might have.

Upon receipt of the equipment shipment, if storage of the equipment is necessary before the installation, it is recommended that the equipment be stored indoors in a dry and secure area until the scheduled installation begins.

6. Instructional InformationOutdoor Fitness Equipment Decal
Basic instructional information is provided in the form of 4 X 6 inch decals (see sample at right) that are affixed to the equipment. These are very sturdy and resistant to the elements. Replacement decals are also available.

The Outdoor-Fitness web site will also be a source of expanding fitness instructional information, where users can gain assistance in devising a program and understanding all the exercise options and techniques.

7. Maintenance
While very little maintenance is required, it is important that someone is responsible for regular inspections. Generally, it is a matter of checking the locking nuts and bolts. Should any equipment failure be evident, these issues will be covered by the warranty information (please see section 9. Warranty). The Outdoor-Fitness Equipment is steel covered in a state-of-the-art, high-tech durable powder coating. The high-tech powder coating process that is used to cover the steel is a quality pure polyester powder prepared for electro-static application. It is the same anti-rust technique that is used in automobile and watercraft manufacturing. The equipment does require very minimal maintenance, but, please remember, the equipment should be looked after, and not neglected or treated poorly, for optimal function and resiliency.Regular inspection and care, such as correctly positioning sprinkler heads, will add to the durability and life of the equipment. For optimal results, maintain the paint surface much like an automobile or vehicle paint surface. Waxing the paint surface (much like the paint job of a car) and using WD-40 in the moving joints on a regular basis can help to increase the life of the equipment.

Protect and Preserve Your Fitness Investment
By creating an effective maintenance plan for your fitness area, you can maximize the lifespan and safety of your equipment. Here are some basic maintenance fundamentals for you to consider as you plan your Outdoor-Fitness, or any publically or privately used fitness area:

Many routine maintenance tasks are custodial in nature, and can be performed on a regular basis.

> Pick up litter
> Sweep walkways, trails or areas.
> Check potential wear points and mechanisms with movement
> Inspect and tighten hardware connections
> Check for any damage caused to the equipment by external elements.
> Level and/or replace displaced loose-fill surfacing
> Loosen any compacted surfacing so that it remains even and easy to move around on.

Preventative maintenance tasks can be performed to increase the life of your equipment. These tasks can be done over time to minimize wear due to age, usage, and the environment.
>
Apply touch up the paint on high-traffic equipment that's been scratched or scraped, or may be showing signs of environmental damage such as rust.
>
Inspect moving parts, nuts, bolts and hardware connections.
>
Correctly positioning sprinkler heads and area water flow can add years, if not decades, to the life of your equipment.

8. Customer Service
We recognize that the process of building a fitness installation is more than just purchasing the equipment. There are many steps and we will remain as a resource to you throughout the entire process and beyond. Our customers are the best means of promoting the equipment and spreading the notion of improved fitness across the country. We are here to support your program in any way possible. Never hesitate to contact us for assistance.

9. Warranty
Every Outdoor-Fitness product is warranted against defects in material and workmanship.

2 YEAR WARRANTY on plastic, rubber or composite parts, seats and fittings, bearings, clamps.

2 YEAR WARRANTY on main frame steel posts, welds, bars, steel structural equipment. The amount credited in years 3 and 4 is pro-rated based on the age of equipment.

Outdoor-Fitness does not warranty for normal levels of rust. The possibility of rust is a normal occurrence in steel, and requires attention and treatment if rust is noticed or observed on the equipment. Please see Maintenance (section 7) above. The powder coating process that is used to cover the steel is a high quality pure polyester powder for electro-static application. It is also the same anti-rust technique used in watercrafts/boating and universally applied in the outdoor painting process. Paint touch up kits are available for maintenance free of charge. Clean any rust spots and apply touch-up paint promptly. For optimal results, maintain the paint surface much like an automobile, vehicle or boat paint surface. An initial supply of touch-up paint is supplied with each shipment.

Misuse, neglect or alteration of product is not covered under warranty

10. Safety Standards and Certifications

ISO 9001
The factory manufacturing process is ISO 9001 certified. is a quality assurance protocol made up of 20 sets of quality system requirements. This model applies to organizations that design, develop, produce, install, and service products. It provide industry with an international structure to ensure all operational processes, maintain quality, are consistent and effective.

ASTM F-1487 Safety Performance Specification
All Outdoor-Fitness equipment meets the ASTM F-1487 Safety performance specification. The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) is a scientific and technical organization that establishes standards for testing of materials, including playground equipment. ASTM also establishes standards for surfacing materials for playground safety. For more information about ASTM standards, visit http://www.astm.org

Consumer Products Safety Commission
Not all Outdoor-Fitness installations will be considered to be playgrounds. However, in any publicly accessible area, The Playground Safety Standards established by The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) will apply. The CPSC is a federal agency whose charter is to inform the public of unreasonable risks associated with consumer products.

The CPSC has developed safety guidelines for playgrounds which are adopted as law in many States. These standards are published in the "Handbook for Public Playground Safety." This 47-page publication is available for download as a large PDF file (3Mgb), free of charge, at their CPSC web site The hand book provides clear requirements for the need and standard of surfacing material as well as minimum safety zones around each piece of equipment.

If you would like to read further information about safety and safety surfaces, please follow THIS LINK and refer to: "Handbook for Public Playground Safety” available online from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Although not all fitness areas are playgrounds, the handbook provides valuable information on general safety.
